A Millennia series electric cooktop, one of the older generations still working in Bay Area kitchens.
Dacor repairSan Francisco & the Bay Area
The CER304 is an electric cooktop in the Dacor Millennia series. That generation is still in service in many homes around the city, so we meet it regularly. An electric cooktop has fewer moving parts than a gas one, which concentrates faults in a few places: the elements, their switches and the power reaching them.
If a single element fails, the element or its switch is the likely cause. If every element fails together, the supply is the better suspect: the breaker, the connection under the counter or the junction. An element that never turns off is a safety matter and should be switched off at the breaker until a technician has checked it. Cracked glass also calls for stopping use, because spills can reach the electrics.
This type of cooktop drops into a cutout and is wired from below, often above an oven or a drawer. In older San Francisco apartments the wiring may be original to the building, so the technician looks at terminals for heat marks or looseness. Please clear the space below before the visit.
Burning smell, smoke or sparks: breaker off immediately.
Read Dacor cooktop repair and browse Dacor cooktops. The Millennia series also includes the CERB365. For a heating complaint, the article on a range not heating describes similar logic. Every visit starts with a diagnosis, followed by a written estimate and your approval.
Mention which element misbehaves, whether the fault follows a particular knob, and what sits beneath the counter. Clear access below the cutout and a few minutes with the model label in view make the first visit much more productive.
It is an electric cooktop in the Millennia series.
Not necessarily. A single element or switch can fail alone, and the rest may remain sound.
No. Stop using it and turn it off at the breaker, since liquid can reach live parts underneath.
Usually on the side of the cooktop chassis or underneath. If you cannot reach it, tell us and we will find it at the visit.
