At a glance

Overview

A Dacor wall oven sits in a cabinet tower at eye level, and in a San Francisco kitchen that tower is often the most carefully fitted piece of joinery in the room. When the oven misbehaves, the cabinet makes everything slower, so it helps to know what you own before anyone arrives.

Models in the wall oven lineup

Single and double units are available across a few product lines. The Classic Wall Ovens series covers Dacor ECD227, Dacor ECD230, Dacor ECS127, Dacor ECS130, Dacor ECS227, Dacor ECS230. In the Transitional line we list the double wall ovens Dacor DOB30P977DS and Dacor DOB30T977DS, both 30″ units, and a further 30″ double, Dacor DOB30M977DM. If your oven is not named here, it can still be serviced; the model page is simply a quick way to see how we describe each one.

Where to read the model label

The label is usually on the oven frame, along the edge you see when the door is open, or on the inside wall of the cavity near the front. Double ovens may carry the plate near the lower cavity opening. Photograph it with your phone before you call. If the oven is built in tightly, the photo saves you from pulling it forward.

What owners usually report

  • Cooks unevenly or runs off temperature. The technician looks at the oven sensor, the bake and broil elements and the control that tells them when to switch on.
  • Will not heat at all. A dead display points toward power and the board; a lit display with a cold cavity points toward elements or relays.
  • Door will not unlock after a clean cycle. The latch motor and its position switches are the usual place to start. Our post on an oven door that will not unlock walks through it.
  • Fan keeps running after the oven is off. The cooling fan is meant to run on for a while; when it never stops, a temperature probe or a board input may be telling it the cabinet is still hot. See cooling fan that keeps running.
  • Keypad ignores touches. Moisture, a stuck key or a failing touch panel can all look alike from the front.

Reading a code on the display

Dacor ovens report faults as letter-and-number codes, and the letter changes the meaning of the whole family. C codes cover sensors, boards and communication, for example C-20 for an oven sensor open or shorted while the oven is running and C-d1 for a door lock out of position. F codes are alarms, such as F2 for a heating-mode high temperature. U and L codes, for instance U50 for a latch lock failure and U60 for a low-speed cooling fan failure, are two spellings of the same list. A C90 only tells you power was interrupted and restored. The full set is on our error codes hub, and the oven error codes article explains how to read them.

Checks you can do from the outside

  1. Confirm the breaker has not tripped and that other kitchen circuits are live.
  2. Write down the code exactly as shown, including the letter and any dash.
  3. Close the door firmly and check that nothing, such as a pan handle or a towel, is caught in it.
  4. Wipe the door gasket area with a damp cloth so food residue is not holding the door open a crack.
  5. Try one controlled power reset at the breaker, then watch whether the code returns.

Do not remove trim, unscrew the oven from its cabinet or test wiring. A burning smell or sparks means power off at the breaker and a call to us from another room.

Cutouts, towers and double stacks

Because a wall oven slides into a cabinet cutout, the first question on a visit is how far it can come forward. Tall pantry towers, hillside kitchens reached by stairs and flush panels around the oven all affect how the work is planned. Tell us if the unit is a double, since the upper and lower cavities are diagnosed separately even when they share a frame.

When to book the service

Once you have the model label and the code, request Dacor wall oven repair. We diagnose first, give you a written estimate and repair nothing without your approval. If your built-in oven is paired with a steam unit above or below it, see Dacor steam and combi ovens as well.
