Read the troubleshooting article first. Each one explains what the symptom usually means, the checks that are safe to do from the outside, what not to attempt and when to book a visit. If the checks do not change anything, the article leads to the repair service for that appliance, where the diagnosis process is described in full.
Stop using an appliance if you smell gas, notice burning or sparks, or see water near electrical parts. Turn it off at the breaker, and for gas, leave the home and call the gas utility or 911 from outside.
